While Robert Pires believes that Alexandre Lacazette will be a success for Arsenal, the former Invincible has pointed out that it might take a while for the 26-year-old to bed into a new league.

Pires rates Lacazette highly and believes the ex-Lyon striker will be successful at Arsenal. However, as with any player moving to a completely new league, the legend, who scored 84 goals for the Gunners, admits that it could take a little while for the France international to get to grips with English football’s physicality.

“I think he will be a success,” Pires said.

“He is a good striker who has scored a lot of goals with Lyon.

“Of course it will be very difficult in the beginning because when you play in France and move to England it is not the same, it is very aggressive.

“Maybe he will need time for the adaptation but everyone around him is very important, especially the French connection.

“I think Arsene Wenger has a very important role for him, Arsenal have Lacazette, Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck, it is good and I’m happy for the club.

“But to make the adaption, to find the rhythm and the tempo, for me it took six or seven months.

“It was very tough, for me it was the aggression and intensity. For me, because I came from France, it was heavy and that is why it is difficult in the Premier League.”

After scoring 28 Ligue 1 goals last season and 37 over all competitions, it’s clear that Lacazette is capable of banging in goals. He’s already scored his first for Arsenal when he came off the bench during their pre-season friendly against Sydney FC.

However, as Pires suggests, the aggression of the Premier League might limit the striker’s chances a little more than over in France. For example, in England, the centre-backs will be all over Lacazette, knowing what he’s capable of if he so much as gets a sniff of a goal.

It may affect him at first but in time he’ll learn to cope. It’s just the way the Premiership is.
