Liverpool reportedly held back on the signing of Alexandre Lacazette because Jurgen Klopp is currently satisfied with the quality of the Reds’ strike force.
- Lacazette expected to sign Arsenal contract today
- Image claiming “photographers waiting for Lacazette” turned out to be fake news
- Klopp believes current Liverpool strike force good enough without Lacazette
Liverpool were previously reported to be willing to go up against Arsenal for Lacazette’s signature this summer. However, apparently Klopp decided that the Merseyside’s current strike force of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho, as well as potentially Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi, Danny Ings, and new signing from Roma, Mohamed Salah, is good enough.
Between them, Mane, Firmino and Coutinho racked up 39 goals and 28 assists last season over all competitions.
Lacazette scored 37 goals alone in 45 appearances.
However, while the striker seems like a solid addition to most teams, not all clubs have limitless funds and while Liverpool are far from poor, Klopp is obviously being sensible and choosing to spend his energy strengthening other areas of the squad.
Fortunately for us, this means that Arsenal have had a more or less clear run at signing Lacazette from Lyon, especially after Atletico Madrid, where the 26-year-old had previously agreed a verbal deal, had their transfer ban upheld.
