Thomas Vermaelen hasn’t been given a squad number by Barcelona, suggesting that the former Arsenal centre-back is leaving the La Liga giants this summer.

Vermaelen is reportedly one of four Barcelona flops players set to leave this summer after they didn’t receive squad numbers.

The other three are Brazilian defender, Douglas Pereira, rumoured Arsenal target, midfielder Sergi Samper, and 21-year-old forward, Munir El Haddadi.

Verm’ signed for Barca in 2014 for a reported £15m… although no one’s quite sure how Arsenal got that much. Since moving from Ajax to north London in 2009, the Belgium international was sidelined for a total of 468 days and this doesn’t include the overlap during his transfer to Spain.

Since signing for Barca, the defender’s injury woes have only continued and during his first season, he played just 63 minutes. In total, he’s made just 21 appearances for them.

Last season, Verm’ was sent out on loan to Roma where he didn’t do much better, showing his face just 12 times over all competitions.

With this in mind, it’s no wonder Barca want to offload him. Poor bloke.
