Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic has been talking up striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, suggesting even further that Olivier Giroud will not be moving to the Bundesliga to replace him.

Although Dortmund’s sporting director, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has already confirmed that Aubameyang won’t be going anywhere this summer, Subotic’s comments on his teammate suggest further that the world-class striker is staying put.

“I don’t mind rumours and if I listen to rumours, I would be a very sad man! We are very happy because he has been a very important player for us,” Subotic told Goal.

“He has probably been one of the key players in the last few years because he is able to change the game with one sprint, one goal.

“He has been a very good team player. He also works defensively which is also one of the key aspects for a player in our club.”

Everton will be chuffed with the news considering they’ve been heavily linked with Giroud over the past couple of weeks. If Dortmund are keen to keep Aubameyang, this means they won’t be in the market for Giroud, leaving the path clear for the Toffees.

Arsenal are said to be demanding £20m for the 30-year-old. However, on the other hand, Arsene Wenger seems insistent that the big guy stays put.

West Ham were also previously linked with the France international, as were Lyon and Marseille.
