Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, has admitted that he can’t guarantee that Los Blancos will sign Monaco striker, Kylian Mbappe, this summer.

Perez has admitted that while Mbappe is a good player, he can’t necessarily promise him a place in the first team as there are only 11 places.

“We are in a situation very similar to that of [Paul] Pogba – last year they said that I had to sign him because we had won the Champions League,” the Real president told Spanish radio show El Primer Palo [via Metro].

“I like him but we can only play 11, the squad is 24 and there are many players that I have liked and, because they have not had a place, they have not come.

“He [Mbappe] is a good player, very young. We did not sign Pogba because we had a great team, as demonstrated. We did not need Pogba.

“In addition, the players have to play to become better and I last year did not see it [playing time] with him. Anyway, the summer is very long, I have signed more than one player on the 31 of August. Some really good ones.”

Mbappe has made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave Monaco, who are allegedly demanding £130m for the teenager, if it means losing out on regular first team football just because it’s for a bigger club.

With the World Cup next year, the 18-year-old wants to give himself the best chance possible of getting picked for the France squad, and he understands that if he moves to a club with more competition for positions this summer, he could be putting himself at a disadvantage.

story trackerL’Equipe recently reported that Zinedine Zidane (as well as Arsene Wenger) had been in contact with Mbappe, promising him a position in the first team and claiming that he would sell either Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema to make way for him.

At least at Arsenal, Mbappe’s chances of playing in the first team every week are higher.
