Emiliano Martinez has emerged as a transfer target for Valencia this summer, news that will surely catch the Argentine’s attention.

Rumour has it that Emi is set to become Arsenal’s number 2 next season but at this point it’s almost impossible to tell what’s happening in the Arsenal goalkeeping department.

David Ospina was supposed to be going to Fenerbahce but they’ve pulled out because his wage demands and transfer fee were too much. Now he fancies staying even though Arsenal still want to get rid of him.

Wojciech Szczesny is the best keeper at the club, so good in fact he’s seen as an adequate replacement for arguably the best keeper the game has ever seen – Gianluigi Buffon, but he doesn’t seem to be wanted either.

Now we have rumours that Valencia are after Martinez, leading Arsenal to chase Jack Butland. The Stoke player is not for sale, and the Potters have already held a meeting regarding his future, hoping that one more great season will see his price eclipse that of Jordan Pickord who moved to Everton for £30m this summer.

Martinez is 24 now and has hardly played a pick of first team football. A move to a La Liga side offering him the number one shirt is bound to make him think twice about his future.

What can Arsenal offer him to convince him his future lies in north London? Nothing short of the number 2 shirt with a clear path to the number 1 would seem to match what the Spaniards bring to the table.

That is a huge ask…

If Arsenal sell Martinez and Sczesny this summer and keep Ospina, I may have to smash some things.
