Having already been praised for inviting 11-year-old brain tumour sufferer, Charlie, into his private box to watch Arsenal against Sunderland in midweek, behind-the-scenes pictures have emerged with the German and one of his biggest fans after our 2-0 win over Sunderland.

Charlie has been suffering from a brain tumour for the past two years and unfortunately, has just suffered a relapse. He’s set to undergo more surgery on his brain and so the cancer-based charity, My Shining Star, led a social media campaign to get him to watch his beloved Arsenal at the Emirates.

After an excellent performance from Özil himself, he then brought Charlie down to meet his team-mates and give him a guided tour around the ground before posing on the turf for pictures, giving the youngster his Man of the Match award.

The charity posted an emotional message to Mesut and Arsenal on its Facebook page after the game.

It read: “Thank you so much to Arsenal and to Mesut Ozil and his amazing agent for giving Charlie, a little boy with a brain tumour, the VIP treatment he deserves.

One very emotional mum has told me that Mesut even gave Charlie his man of the match trophy tonight. My heart is pounding, so emotional for Charlie and Jo, his lovely mum. Charlie got his dream! Thank you to every single person that shared our posts and tweets for Charlie, it means more than you will ever ever know.”
