Mesut Ozil has invited 11-year-old brain tumour sufferer, Charlie, into his private box at the Emirates for Arsenal v Sunderland later this month.

  • Arsenal v Sunderland is on 16 May, kick-off 7:45pm
  • Charlie gets to experience Ozil’s private box and meet him after the game
  • Gooners have been offering Charlie their FA Cup final tickets
  • Charity has hailed Ozil for being ‘fantastic’

Cancer-based charity, My Shining Star, led a social media campaign to get life-long Gooner, Charlie, to see his beloved Arsenal before undergoing surgery.

Although Charlie has been suffering with a brain tumour for two years, he’s recently relapsed and therefore has limited time to see Arsenal play before the procedure.

Fellow Gooners have even been offering the 11-year-old their FA Cup final tickets to ensure that he gets to see his team play at least once.

After being made aware of the campaign, Ozil invited Charlie to his private box for the Sunderland game on 16 May and the Junior Gunner will even get to meet his hero after the game in the players’ lounge.

My Shining Star’s Anita has described Ozil as ‘fantastic’ after receiving the news.

“Ozil has been fantastic and whilst he doesn’t want the publicity, I feel he deserves it,” she said.

“The fans, both Arsenal and other clubs have just been fantastic.

“It’s such huge awareness for a charity such as ours too, it will allow us to help other families so I’m so relieved.”

While the charity itself posted on their Facebook, “Mesut Ozil’s PR manager has been in touch to say that he personally invites Charlie as a guest in his box at the Emirates, at the Arsenal match against Sunderland.

“He will of course get to spend time with Ozil and the other players and get his dream!!

“Arsenal’s computers crashed today because of the amount of requests for Charlie and they had to have a meeting!”
