Garth Crooks believes that the only player who has ever transitioned to the position of wing-back as smoothly as Chelsea’s Victor Moses has, was Lauren.

  • Moses has made 36 appearances for Chelsea this season
  • Scored 4, assisted 4
  • Crooks believes Lauren is only player he can compare him to
  • Lauren won 2 titles and 3 FA Cups with Arsenal

When Arsenal signed Lauren from Mallorca in 2000, he was a midfielder.

However, over the next few seasons, Arsene Wenger pushed him back into the right-back position, where he excelled.

Moses has had a similar task this season, going from Chelsea’s winger to wing-back as Antonio Conte adopted a formation with three at the back.

The 26-year-old has reinvented himself, making 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and assisting the same amount.

“This was another consummate performance by Victor Moses,” wrote Crooks in his Team of the Week feature for the BBC.

“It’s got to the stage where I actually look forward to watching him play these days.

“Apart from a player who has played in Moses’ current position all his life, it is only Lauren, the former Arsenal and Cameroon player, who I have seen make as successful a transition to full-back as Moses has.”

Lauren won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups while at Arsenal so comparing Moses to the former Gunner is a huge compliment.

And probably a pretty difficult one for Crooks considering he used to play for Spurs.

Needless to say, no Arsenal players made it into Crooks’ Team of the Week…
