Arsenal have reportedly been put on ‘high alert’ by Karim Benzema, who appears to be looking for a way out of Real Madrid.

Benzema has been a long-term target of Arsene Wenger’s. However, at the age of 29, it’s unlikely that he still is.

Regardless, Benzema has reportedly put Arsenal (and Manchester United) on alert as he tells his agent he wants to leave Real Madrid amid rumours that the La Liga giants are willing to listen to offers.

Real are said to be asking for £50m despite the France international’s age, decreasing potency in front of goal, and the fact that his contract runs out in just two years.

This season, the striker’s scored just nine goals (four assists) in 26 La Liga appearances – a far cry from his 24 goals in 29 (eight assists) last season.

While Arsenal are set to revamp their entire squad over the summer given their terrible season, it’s doubtful that this will start with paying over the odds for an older player who’s purely on the hunt for more regular game time.
