According to a recent report in Italy, Arsenal are one of the interested sides who could make a move for AC Milan striker, Carlos Bacca, whose long-term future with the Rossoneri is uncertain and is reportedly eyeing up a move to the Emirates.

Why is Bacca so highly-regarded?

With 13 goals and four assists in 28 league appearances this term, he is the club’s top scorer but has been attracting interest from elsewhere since his successful two-year spell at Sevilla.

Now 30, this represents Bacca’s best opportunity at a move to England’s top flight.

However, it’s unlikely that given Arsenal’s strength in attacking options, they’d actually make a move for the Colombian – he was previously on a reported striker shortlist of targets that Arsène Wenger wanted an extended look at, but any possibility that a move would be completed disintegrated quickly as Arsenal went in search elsewhere for attacking options.

But…

One of the main criticisms of Bacca is his frustrating inconsistency.

On some occasions, he can be brilliant and showcase his goal-scoring ability when needed most by teammates. At other times, though, he has a tendency to be quiet and is often a frustrating figure in attack without making any effort to get involved in play.

Previously linked with moves to China and West Ham, Bacca turned those down but has drawn criticism from Milan supporters and former players for his polarising performances.

West Ham had a deal agreed in the region of £25m last summer but Bacca cited personal reasons as tp why the move fell through.

I thought about my family, about how we would fit and problems that a South American soccer player can have in terms of the non-EU passport,” Bacca was quoted as saying in an article on the Mirror in September.

With that in mind, would Arsenal be prepared to spend somewhere in the region of €25m (a decreased figure) for someone that could potentially only feature as a fringe player in future?

The answer to that is, no.

Olivier Giroud has recently signed a new deal, Danny Welbeck and Lucas Pérez (when available) would naturally be fighting for starting berths and the move wouldn’t make sense for either party.
