Mesut Ozil has told the Mail on Sunday that Arsenal are aware they need to strengthen ahead of the new season, but that isn’t the most important thing for the club.
- Mesut Ozil has created more assists and chances since arriving in England than any other player
- Only Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez, and Theo Walcott have scored more goals for Arsenal than Ozil since 2013

“I think the club know they need to strengthen,” Ozil said. “But what’s most important is the manager’s opinion. He and the club will make the decision.
“When you look at our squad, it’s not as broad as Bayern’s or Real Madrid’s. In the Champions League, that’s not enough, especially against big teams, because they have more breadth in their squad.”
Arsenal are expected to make a number of changes this summer with the manager staying and the playing staff being rejigged.
Reports that the board want him to go further and change the coaching staff have filled the papers too, but it remains to be seen how much change the man famed for his love of stability can be persuaded to undertake.
Perhaps, most importantly, the thing that needs to change most is Arsene Wenger.
