PSG playmaker Julian Draxler has publicly admitted his eagerness for compatriot Mesut Özil to join him in Paris this summer.
So much so, the 23-year-old has already told his midfield counterpart to sign if given the opportunity.
Draxler and Özil are reportedly close friends. With time running out on Mesut’s current contract, this news will not come as a surprise – but is slightly worrying for Arsenal supporters eager to see him remain beyond the current campaign.
Özil has already revealed contract talks will not continue until the summer and Draxler admitted he’d like his compatriot to join him at the Ligue 1 champions.
When questioned Draxler told SFR Sport, “Yeah, I would like to see my friend here, Mesut Ozil, because his Arsenal contract is nearly over.
“I think he has one more year. I think he is a great player and I enjoy playing with him in the national team and I would love to play with him at PSG.”
Operating on the left-hand side under Joachim Löw, Draxler has featured often alongside Özil in a 4-2-3-1 formation that has achieved mixed success in recent years.
“Yeah, we speak in a way like friends are talking and I say to him ‘come to PSG.’ He is laughing and he said to me last summer ‘come to Arsenal.’ It is just like this,” Draxler continued.
When questioned about whether he had any insider information, “I do not know what he is planning, what his plans are but as I said, I would love to see him here because he is a great player and an even greater guy.”
These comments don’t seem sneaky, although it’s likely that private conversations have taken place between the two as friends.
Whether or not Özil will sign, remains to be seen.
