Arsenal are once against being linked with Wolfsburg left-back, Ricardo Rodriguez, although Chelsea are said to be about to ‘pip us’ to the signing.

If the name Ricardo Rodriguez rings a bell, that’s because it should.

At the beginning of the summer, just after we’d signed the Wolfsburg defender’s Switzerland teammate, Granit Xhaka, Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old.

Now, the Sun are claiming that we’re interested in a January move for the full-back but Chelsea have already inquired and are willing to pay £21m to bring him to London.

I do genuinely believe that Arsenal were interested in Rodriguez in the summer. The links were too strong without being sensational.

However, the move failed to materialise and, for whatever reason, he never came to Arsenal.

Are we interested now? We could be. Nacho Monreal has failed to really reach the form he managed last season and is now over 30. Although we have Kieran Gibbs, he’s injury prone and getting a fully established left-back could be a sensible move.

Rodriguez has scored two goals and also assisted two in 15 Bundesliga appearances so far this season. Not bad, eh?

Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for a defender in January but we’ll see. You never know with him, do you?
