Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for Feyenoord right-back, Rick Karsdorp.
Although the boss admits the 21-year-old is a good player, apparently, Arsenal aren’t looking to sign any defenders in January.
“No, at present we are not looking for defenders,” Wenger said.
“Your information is not quite right. Do I know who Rick Karsdorp is? Yes, he is definitely a good player, but we now find ourselves not on the transfer market. We are more focused on winning the next game.”
To be fair, you can understand why. Not only does this link seem to have come out of nowhere, but we already have Hector Bellerin, Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson in that position and while the latter two are out of action with Debuchy sustaining a serious hamstring injury against Bournemouth and Jenks suffering from… a lack of confidence apparently, I still don’t see the boss looking outside of Arsenal for reinforcements in that area.
Although Gabriel doesn’t have Bellerin’s speed or attacking mind, he did a sound enough job covering while the Spaniard was sidelined with an ankle injury.
What’s clear is that we’re not interested in Karsdorp, who’s featured 17 times in the Eredivisie so far this season, scoring once and assisting three. Enough said.
