TuttoMercatoWeb are reporting that Wolfsburg are set to accept an Arsenal bid of £41.9m for Julian Draxler, a player we all know wants to leave the German side.
It’s hard not to get a little bit excited about this for a few reasons.
Firstly, TMW list it as an exclusive and they generally have very good information and contacts with many agents (so be aware this could also be agent games).
Secondly, we know that Draxler wants to leave – he said as much, and Arsenal have been chasing him for a while now with the player saying he wasn’t ready to move abroad.
Could he be ready now?
Arsene Wenger needs a big statement signing and Draxler certainly would be that and while not in a position that Arsenal need to strengthen urgently, it would calm a large section of the fanbase.
As with all rumours, we advise a healthy dose of caution, but this one has left me a little tingly.
Whether that’s a reflection of the strength of the rumour or my desire to see Arsenal do *something* isn’t quite clear at this point.
My one concern is that this offer, which is equal to €50m is significantly lower than his release clause that comes into play next summer. Would Wolfsburg really accept that?
