Thierry Henry has been appointed assistant coach of Belgium’s national team.

Shortly after former Everton boss, Roberto Martinez, was handed the position of head coach of Beglium’s national team, Thierry Henry has been named his assistant.

Not long ago, it was revealed that the Arsenal hero was set to take up a similar role at the same side but only if Ralf Rangnick had been named manager. The two men have positive history together and it was speculated that Rangnick was ready to bring Henry on board.

Rangnick wasn’t given the job, so we all kind of put aside the notion that Henry would be given such a huge role.

More fool us, because the 39-year-old has been named as Martinez’s second in command.

The ex-Gunner tweeted that he ‘can’t wait’.

Henry was ‘forced’ to step down from his youth coaching role at Arsenal after the club allegedly informed him that they were uncomfortable with him also working as a Sky Sports pundit at the same time. It was a conflict of interests and I can’t blame Arsenal for reacting this way.

Henry chose Sky Sports.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the Belgium national team allows him to carry on his career in front of the cameras or whether he’ll willingly put that aside.
