Serge Gnabry has been named the Rio 2016 men’s Player of the Tournament for the Olympic football.

The German scored six goals in six appearances and was his country’s stand out player at the tournament. Although his team only won silver in the final against hosts Brazil, he scored his penalty on the day.

Gnabry won the poll, run by the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola, by a whopping 29.7%. That’s almost of third of the votes.

The forward is bound to be delighted with the achievement since he’s not had the best luck in recent years. Injury and dodgy loan spells (coughWestBromcough) have meant that he’s not seen regular football too often. Luckily, he was given the chance to represent Germany at the Olympics and did himself proud.

It’s unclear where the 21-year-old will be next season. Although Arsene Wenger has made it clear that Arsenal want to extend his contract, he’s been linked with loan moves away to Hertha BSC, RB Leipzig and FSV Mainz 05.
