The most transparent ‘transfer saga’ of the summer could be about to end with – drum roll please – Mauro Icardi signing a new contract with Inter Milan. What a surprise. Not.

We’ve said for a while on Daily Cannon that the way Wanda Nara, Icardi’s wife/agent, was speaking in the press definitely gave the impression that the striker just wanted a new, improved contract with the Serie A club. Combine this with the fact that the player himself seemed pretty dead-set on staying and it seems clear that he was never going to leave.

According to Fichajes, it’s the arrival of new boss, Frank de Boer that’s slowed down the transfer and changed the situation. Although I’m not convinced there was ever really a ‘situation’ to change.

Now, the Italian media are claiming that Inter have approached him with a brand new, improved contract. Just as he wanted. The only reported stumbling block is that the new deal is worth €5m a year and Wanda Nara wants at least €6m.

Of course, this is also just speculation and for all I know, Icardi could rock up in a Chelsea or Arsenal shirt (lol) in September.

But I highly, highly doubt it.
