Mathieu Debuchy will not be returning to Bordeaux next season after Arsenal asked the French side for too much money.

Linked with a number of clubs, notably Galatasaray to whom his agent offered him, Debuchy has always talked about wanting to return to France with Lille, the club he first joined in 1993 but I think at this stage he would take any club back in his homeland.

That won’t be Bordeaux.

Speaking to the press, their manager, Jocelyn Gourvennec, said, “I always said that I liked him a lot … After going financially against the English [Arsenal], he’s unplayable.”

Of course, Google translate has had it’s way with his comments, but you get the jist.

West Ham are said to be ready to move for him as they look to ensure their first season in their new home is a roaring success and they push on towards Champions League football.

The Daily Star claim they are set to ‘hijack’ the deal after Arsenal had accepted a bid for the full back but their reports come from Fanatik which is a less than reliable site.

That being said, it wouldn’t be unbelievable that West Ham would come in for him because he’s certainly up for sale.
