After Arsenal reportedly held talks with both Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette earlier in the week, it’s now being claimed that we’re ready to trigger the latter’s release clause.

On Tuesday, Daily Cannon reported on the rumour that Arsenal were apparently in talks with both Lukaku and Lacazette’s representatives over a possible move for one of the strikers (no one really thought we’d be buying both, did they?). It was always more likely that we would go for the Lyon man; he costs far less and this isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with him.

Now, reports are claiming that word from the Arsenal camp is that we’re willing to trigger Lacazatte’s £34.2m release clause.

We’ve been saying for a while that, considering the strikers that are actually available in Europe right now, the Frenchman would be a logical signing. Therefore, the fact that we do appear to be taking acquiring his signature quite seriously makes sense.

There is talk of Liverpool swooping in for the 25-year-old but, at this point, I think we’re the only club genuinely in the picture, despite Lyon recently claiming that they wouldn’t be letting him go.

Lacazette scored 21 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
