We’re only a few days into June and already we have reports of a second Arsenal transfer on the verge of being completed.
This story has moved really fast since the news broke on Friday night that Arsenal had activated Vardy’s release clause and with his wife responding to abuse online from Leicester fans and Claudio Ranieri allegedly confirming the bid, it was only a matter of time before a medical was announced. That this is all going quickly is no real surprise.
Roy Hodgson has banned all medicals and transfer discussions when the squad travel to France so it’s either move now and get it done before Monday when they leave or wait until England are knocked out by which case other clubs might have got in on the act.
At present, after a lot of digging, the source for the rumours that that deal is on the verge of being completed, or a medical arranged, is Goal however the Mirror echo the view that Arsenal are pushing to have it done as soon as possible. Other media outlets are also picking it up, as with the Express above, but they’re all parroting what they read on those two sites without adding anything new.
The deal details, beyond the £20m release clause are believed to see Arsenal offering him £120k per week. At his age, I can’t see it being more than a three-year-deal. Maybe four if Vardy pushes, but certainly not the five we handed Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Granit Xhaka when they first put pen to paper.
