Kelechi Nwakali is set to get exactly what he wants as Arsenal hand him the number 25 shirt.

A few months ago, long before the signing was confirmed, Nwakali said that it would be his dream to wear the shirt of his idol, Kanu, and it seems as if he’s going to get his wish.

The number would certainly suggest that Nwakali will, at least, be on the fringes of the first team next season although I would be very surprised to see him heavily involved unless injury strikes half the squad down.

Yeah, ok, maybe we can expect to see him.

Voted the Most Valuable Player at last year’s u17 World Cup, the Nigerian comes with a massive reputation and a number of huge clubs disappointed at missing out on his signature.

Emeka Amajiriaku, head of the Diamond Academy from which Nwakali hails, told AllNigeriaSoccer, “Arsenal have informed us that Kelechi has been handed the number 25 jersey. He was trying to get that number because of Kanu Nwankwo, so he’s happy they gave it to him.”

Previous players to wear the 25 in the Premier League era have included Neal Heaney, Mark Flatts, Scott Marshall, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Carl Jenkinson.

It has been vacant since the start of the 14/15 season.
