Borussia Monchengladbach sound as if they’ve accepted defeat and realise that midfielder, Granit Xhaka, will be leaving for better opportunities this summer.
The Bundesliga club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, admitted that other clubs can offer him more, such as Champions League football, although they will try to persuade him to stay in Germany despite reports that we’ve now lodged a bid.
“We will fight for Granit,” Eberl said.
“There are clubs that can offer an even bigger chance of playing Champions League and competing for titles and trophies.”
The 23-year-old has been linked with Arsenal for a long ol’ time, with recent updates suggesting that we’re currently holding talks with his people. Apparently, Monchengladback want £35m and we’re offering… around £20m, further highlighting that Arsenal need to work on their negotiation skills.
Saying that, now that it looks pretty much odds-on for Mikel Arteta to pack up his hair gel and Mathieu Flamini to ride into the sunset on his dragon (rich people have dragons, right?), we do need another defensive midfielder to come in. We can’t go another season with just Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny. It’ll be a bloodbath.
