Arsenal have reportedly submitted a bid of €43m for Granit Xhaka.
The Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has reportedly been high on our list of priorities recently, given the imminent departure of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini. The 23-year-old would add some much-needed cover in an area we’ve been lacking in for a long time.
German site, Rp-Online, are currently claiming that we’ve actually lodged a bid, which is interesting considering Arsene Wenger said recently that we weren’t currently looking at anyone. Also, this isn’t the first time we’ve reportedly bid this amount.
Given Manchester United’s loss against West Ham, the Gunners are more or less guaranteed Champions League football next season (unless we don’t make it through play-offs blah blah blah) and this is an attractive prospect for the defensive midfielder.
His contract in Germany doesn’t run out until 2019, so this explains the high asking price, which is the equivalent of £34m, but if Wenger is convinced he’s exactly what our squad needs, we might as well go all in.
