The possible signing of Mohamed Elneny from Basel appears to be just on the horizon.

Early on Tuesday, Basel confirmed that Elneny had missed training ahead of a possible transfer.

The defensive midfielder, who we’ve been heavily linked with over the past few days, appears to have agreed a deal with Arsenal, with the announcement rumoured to be released within the next five days.

It’s now looking almost certain that we’ve signed the 23-year-old Egyptian. He’s a player in a position we need because of Coquelin’s injury, he’s affordable and isn’t so experienced that he’ll complain if Francis returns straight to the first team.

Wenger did say he’d be busy in the transfer window and it appears that he’s already made a signing within the first week of January. Whether he’ll make more signings, we don’t know but this is definitely a good start.
