A huge 2-1 win on Monday night saw Arsenal go four point clear of Manchester City in the Premier League.

An early Christmas present for Arsenal fans, a shaky November has been rectified by three wins in December. The next few weeks will only get tougher, but what a way to start the festive period.

“We have played a lot of games in the last few weeks but we are happy to beat Manchester City,” said Mesut Özil after the game. “We will take the three points and all of us are happy about it.”

The German was superb once again, despite being ill all week, and won man of the match.

With two more assists, he now has 15 from 16 Premier League appearances this season. He’s been incredible this campaign, but remains humble.

“I’m happy to help the team. You see on the pitch that my team-mates help me to play my game. I just help them in return so today was another important game for us. I tried to give my best and we won the game, so we take the three points and that’s the most important thing.”

Now four points clear of Manchester City and just two behind Leicester, the Gunners are considered favourites for the Premier League title. The pressure is increasing, but Arsenal have lived up to expectations so far.

Wins against both Manchester clubs, Bayern Munich (and Leicester!) has to give this side the confidence that the can beat anyone.

“We believe in ourselves,” Özil said. “Look at the results against the big clubs and you’ll see that we’ve won against them, so we know our quality if we can play our game. We will give our best all season to try to win the title.”
