Arsenal legend Robert Pirès has told Sky Sports that his former club will be able to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The former star is now an ambassador to the club that is clearly close to his heart, and feels the signing of Petr Čech puts Arsenal in a strong position ahead of the new season.

“This is a player who they and has won the title, so yes, he can help them win the title,” said Pirès.

During his time at Chelsea, Čech was first-choice goalkeeper during three successful Premier League campaigns, and played second string as Chelsea won the league last season. He has an incredible amount of experience that will only benefit the Arsenal squad.

“Of course it will be very tough because you have Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, but of course, they have a good chance.

“I hope [the signing] will work, because he can make a big difference. It is good news for Arsenal the signing of Petr Cech.”

It seems that the Arsenal squad was not too far away from challenging, and now that the goalkeeping ‘issue’ seems to be solved we may well be the closest we’ve been in a decade.

I mean, who am I to argue with Robert Pirès?
