Jeunes Footeux report that Arsenal are ‘very close’ to an agreement for Pape Gueye. They claim a potential €6m deal is in the works for the player, whose contract expires in 2021.

Sevilla, Udinese, Fiorentina and AC Milan are all monitoring Gueye too, but Arsenal are the only club making progress towards an agreement.

This follows on from reports from Spain, claiming Arsenal are watching the midfielder. Le Havre reportedly don’t want to sell, but negotiating with a Ligue 2 club for a player with just a year left on his contract, Arsenal are in a strong position.

The left-footed Frenchman plays as a defensive midfielder. He has excellent physical attributes, good ball-winning capabilities and distributes the ball effectively in possession. Gueye is up to 22 appearances for Le Havre this season, providing a couple of assists.

In each of the last couple of summers, Arsenal have brought in a young and relatively low-profile player. Back in 2018, it was Matteo Guendouzi from Ligue 2. In 2019, it was Gabriel Martinelli from the depths of Brazilian football.

It’s working out pretty well so far. As a result, it’s certainly not out of the question they might move for Gueye next. For now, it’s just one report from a smaller French publication though.
