Danny Welbeck took to Twitter, vowing to be ‘even stronger’ when he returns from his broken ankle while posting the first photograph since he broke his ankle against Sporting on Thursday night.

The striker had to undergo two operations to correct the damage to his right ankle that resulted from his freak fall. Leading orthopedic surgeon, Professor James Calder, wielded the scalpel.

The first operation was to stabilise his ankle while the second was to repair the damage to the join.

Arsenal are expected to give a rough timeframe for Welbeck’s return to action within the next 24-48 hours, however, it is unlikely we will see him on the pitch before the end of the 18/19 season.

It is also unclear if Arsenal will offer him a new deal. Welbeck had been in talks over an extension before his injury and, given Arsenal’s history with injured players, some sort of offer is likely to be made.
