Sokratis Papastathopoulos has completed his medical with Arsenal, ahead of the imminent official announcement of his transfer.

The Daily Mail write that Sokratis has now ‘completed his medical at the club’, ahead of his move this month. This is consistent with reports on Thursday that the medical was scheduled for sometime around the end of this week.

Now that final step is complete, all that remains is the official announcement, which is expected to take place imminently.

As BBC journalist David Ornstein previously confirmed, Arsenal and Dortmund were holding back on pushing the deal through, waiting to announce it in July. This was for tax purposes, based on the start of the new tax quarter.

The transfer is one of the most poorly-kept secrets in the transfer market this summer. Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc recently confirmed that a deal is close, and Sokratis’ father gave a full interview on the move earlier this month, revealing how his son turned down Manchester United for Arsenal.

Now it’s finally July, the deal shouldn’t have to remain secret much longer.

Last season, Sokratis made 43 appearances for Dortmund, scoring three goals. Hopefully he should add a lot of fight and experience to the Arsenal back line. It’s exciting that the club are finally addressing the areas of the squad with clear deficiencies. Let’s hope that continues.
