Russian agent Sandor Varga has told local media that Arsene Wenger could make a move for reported Arsenal target Aleksandr Golovin, if the manager takes over a new club.

Last summer, Varga revealed that Wenger had asked him to watch Golovin for him, when the Frenchman was still in charge of Arsenal. Now, the 68-year-old is reportedly keen on bringing the talented Russian youngster wherever he goes next.

Russian outlet Sport Express asked Varga about the possibility of Sarri signing Golovin for Chelsea.

“I can say the same about Wenger,” the agent responded. “I asked Arsene about Golovin, the Frenchman said: ‘I do not know what Arsenal will do, but I’ll take him for myself.’

“Arsene wants to work. While there is no certainty, we negotiated with two clubs, but did not come to an agreement. But if Wenger takes [charge of] any team, Golovin will have another option.”

The same Russian outlet wrote on Thursday that Arsenal have ‘again joined the fight’ for Golovin. Their sources claim scouts from the club gave Unai Emery all the information on the player, and the new head coach then ‘gave the go-ahead for the transfer’. At this stage, Arsenal still haven’t made an official bid.

However, Di Marzio reported on Monday that Juventus have made their interest in Golovin official, with an offer of €17m plus bonuses. CSKA are holding out for €25m.

The media have linked Arsenal to a move for Golovin for much of this year. The player himself responded to the speculation by telling reporters he tries not to think about it. With the way he’s performing at the World Cup, there’ll be plenty of competition, and Varga’s admission just proves that point.
