Arsenal and FC Porto are in talks over a loan move for Kelechi Nwakali, according to reports in the player’s home country and an Instagram post from the player himself.

AllNigeriaSoccer.com write that the two clubs are in advanced negotiations over a season-long deal for the player, hoping to agree it before pre-season gets fully underway. Nwakali has reportedly already agreed personal terms with the Portuguese club, and is just awaiting approval from Arsenal.

The player himself has seemingly now confirmed that the move is close on Instagram, posting a picture of himself in Portugal along with the caption “Back to work…Portugal Porto”.

Nwakali is now 20 years old, and has a contract with the Gunners until 2021. However, he still doesn’t have a work permit in England, so there’s no chance of him sticking with his parent club next season.

If the player had managed to make it into Nigeria’s World Cup squad this summer, it might be a different story. With the way he performed in Nigeria’s friendly against Atletico Madrid, that shouldn’t have been out of the question either.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, and Arsenal fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the midfielder play for their club.

Hopefully he’ll get his move to FC Porto, and prove himself in the Portuguese league. Then caps with Nigeria and a work permit in England are sure to follow.
