All week it has been reported that Luis Enrique is Arsenal’s preferred candidate for the soon-to-be vacant manager’s job and that the Spaniard wants to join the club but now we’re back to him wanting to join Chelsea instead.

This is far from the first time that Enrique has been linked with Chelsea.

In fact, earlier in the season it was claimed that it was all but a done deal. Then Enrique confirmed he had not made any decision but wanted to go somewhere he ‘felt loved’.

Talks between Arsenal and the manager were said to be ‘advanced’ with Raul Sanllehi giving Arsenal the edge but now Sport in Spain report that Enrique should make a decision in the next few days and he is more interested in going to Stamford Bridge than Ashburton Grove.

Luis Enrique is about to join Chelsea, they write.

Although they stress that nothing has been signed, Sport believe that the ‘last fringes’ of the contract are being negotiated.

“Chelsea met with Luis Enrique to weigh up the pros and cons of the future of the London team,” Sport add.

“It is clear that Chelsea need a wide remodeling of the template and it seems that the coach would have the necessary resources to be able to compete with the greats of Europe.”

Sport also seem to believe that, far from being Arsenal’s favourite or close to agreeing a deal to join Arsenal, Enrique was only ever on the Gunners’ shortlist to replace Wenger along with a number of other candidates.

They believe that Arsenal are a less attractive option due to their ‘irregular years’ in Europe and the Premier League.

Sport expect a decision in the next few days so that Enrique can begin planning for next season.
