Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes says he would have preferred Borussia Dortmund to keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the Bundesliga needs to hold onto its best players.

Bayern Munich are heading towards their 28th Bundesliga title. The German club have an 18-point lead over Bayer Leverkusen in second place with 21 games gone, cruising to the title as they have done over the past few seasons.

Borussia Dortmund are usually one of the teams challenging Bayern, but their struggles this season, including their problems with Aubameyang, sees them fourth, 19 points behind top spot.

Despite Dortmund’s problems conspiring to make it even easier than normal for Bayern Munich, Heynckes believes that losing Aubameyang to the Premier League is a bad thing for the division.

“It would be better to keep our best players,” he explained. “It would be a good thing for the TV rights, for the spectators and for the overall level of the Bundesliga.”

He’s got a point.

I doubt many foreign fans want to tune in to watch Bayern walk over every side below them. Competition makes a league more interesting, and losing Aubameyang has devalued the Bundesliga even further.

From an Arsenal point of view, it’s hard to care too much.

As much as losing Aubameyang hurts the Bundesliga, it benefits the Premier League. More specifically, it benefits the Gunners, who have a world class striker leading the line and already scoring.

Plus, it’s another big name for the Premier League.

Whether Aubameyang scores 30 goals a season or not, he should draw interest from supporters around the world.

Getting off to a great start with a goal this weekend, hopefully he’ll bring some new fans to Arsenal as well.
