David Seaman has praised Arsenal’s performance in the Community Shield and believes the Gunners are capable of taking apart most teams.

The Arsenal legend was full of praise for the performance against Chelsea yesterday and believes it’ll be a nice confidence boost ahead of a big season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Seaman said: “It means a lot to beat Chelsea and to win another trophy. I was impressed by the way they played.

“What we saw is that if Arsenal can play their best game, with one-touch and two-touch and neat passing, they can take apart most teams. It was a good confidence boost for the start of the season.”

Arsenal defeated Chelsea on penalties yesterday after a 1-1 draw in normal time. Victor Moses had given the Blues the lead, but Arsenal came back with a debut goal from Sead Kolasinac.

The Gunners seem to reserve some of their best performances for Wembley and were once again able to match a team that’s supposed to significantly better than they are, with Arsenal also beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final months previously.

While these performances and successes are always great, fans will be hoping that they can replicate them throughout the regular season and really challenge for the Premier League title.

Seaman’s optimism is much more preferable to the negativity from the usual suspects, however, particularly Paul Merson, who believes the Gunners will miss out on the top-four and lose Alexis Sanchez this summer.

“I know where Merse is coming from,” the former goalkeeper added. You don’t want to lose your top-quality players and that is what Sanchez is. Whether Arsene digs his heels in and makes him stay, we will have to wait and see.”
