The Thomas Lemar rumours refuse to die, as Duncan Castles now claims that a deal could still be on for the young French international.

After rumours of a bid for the player were confirmed earlier in the summer, Arsenal fans started to get excited, and suddenly it seemed like every other article was a ‘Lemar update’. This week Arsène Wenger seemed to crush those dreams by saying that the move was “dead”.

However, Duncan Castles has revived the rumours, telling The Transfer Window podcast, via Daily Star: “I had a chat with a Monaco contact last night, asking him where things stood. He said the Lemar deal is very much still on the table as far as they’re concerned.

“It is a possibility he leaves, if the transfer fee they are looking for of £60m is met.”

It’s hard to say how reliable Castles’ source is without any knowledge of who it is, but third-hand information is probably not enough to bring this story back in most people’s eyes. Either way, we will know by Thursday, when the window closes.

Lemar would certainly represent a very promising signing for the Gunners. The Monaco man is just 21-years-old, but last season he managed 14 goals and 17 assists in 55 matches in all competitions.

Along with Kylian Mbappé he was one of the young stars that helped to deliver the title for Monaco but with so many high-profile departures it’ll be difficult for the team to repeat the same feat again this season, which may impact Lemar’s thinking when it comes to a move.

For now, it’s probably safest to assume he’s staying put, at least until we know anything more.
