Arsene Wenger has confirmed that David Ospina will be the goalkeeper to start against Chelsea on Saturday.

  • Ospina to get 70 minutes against Chelsea
  • Emi Martinez will get 20 minutes while Cech rests
  • Lacazette set to start up front due to Giroud sickness

Just like the FA Cup final, Wenger has revealed that Ospina will get the nod on Saturday against Chelsea at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Bejing.

Unlike the cup final, however, Saturday’s clash is just a friendly and therefore Ospina isn’t scheduled to play for the whole match. Emi Martinez will get some time under his belt while Cech rests.

“(I took Cech off against Bayern) Because I want to give a chance to the other goalkeepers so they have experience as well,” Wenger explained, report Arsenal.com.

“I can only do it in preseason that I can take a goalkeeper off after 70 minutes. In fact the goalkeeper who came on played well so I think it was a good night for both goalkeepers.”

He added, “They all fight for it but at the moment he is doing very well. Ospina will play against Chelsea on Saturday, and we will do the same against them – Ospina for 70 minutes and then 20 minutes for Martinez. Cech will rest on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, Per Mertesacker missed out on the Bayern Munich match through sickness, therefore it’s unlikely that he will be well enough to feature against the Blues, and Laurent Koscielny is suffering from back problems, so it’s likely that Mohamed Elneny will once again feature at centre-back.

Olivier Giroud was also ruled out of the Bayern clash because he was sick, so Alexandre Lacazette will most likely start up front again.
