Barcelona will compete with Arsenal for the signature of Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez this summer.

  • Don Balon claim Barcelona have reignited their interest in the Algerian
  • The Sun reported yesterday that Mahrez is a target for Arsenal
  • Leicester want £50m for the former Player of the Year

Spanish newspaper Don Balon have reported that Barcelona want Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez.

Barcelona, as well as several other teams, were interested in Mahrez last summer. However, the Algerian opted to stay with Leicester and signed a new long-term deal as the Foxes played in the Champions League.

This time, Mahrez has handed in a transfer request, stating he was “fiercely ambitious” and wanted a new challenge. Arsenal were one of the clubs interested last summer and are targeting the player again this summer as they aim to build a squad capable of winning the league title.

With the future of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott up in the air, the Algerian international at the King Power Stadium would be a decent replacement.

Both Arsenal and Barcelona are believed to be willing to pay £40m for the 2015/16 PFA Player of the Year, but Leicester are holding out for £50m. Mahrez could make their mind up if he becomes impatient with a lack of progress this summer, however.
