The tweet, translated from French, says: “The rumours are wrong.” Nevertheless, Martial has had his endless problems with the club since his £36m move from AS Monaco and is coming off the back of a disappointing season, which led to public criticism from manager Jose Mourinho.

Arsenal, who were keen on the French international before he moved to Old Trafford, have been interested in his services this summer but its unknown if United would sell to a Premier League rival. United the Red Devils bolster their own attack, they won’t allow Arsenal to add to theirs.

Martial made just 18 Premier League starts last season, scoring four goals. The 21-year-old had a dispute with the club over his shirt number being given to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and fell out of favour with his manager – being dropped for the Europa League final.

While he may claim publicly that the rumours are false, more to this transfer saga could transpire this summer and Arsenal are sure to be closely monitoring.
