According to reports, Arsenal and Manchester City are both interested in William Carvalho with Arsenal being linked for approximately the 100th time.

Express Sport suggests that West Bromwich Albion are tracking Carvalho but could face tough competition in the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

As his price tag is likely to deter interest from WBA, Arsenal and City remain the only real candidates for the player.

Manchester City are likely to lose Yaya Toure this summer, and Carvalho is seen as the most likely replacement for Ivorian.

The 25-year-old has been linked with Arsenal for a quite some time and it’s still unknown if this is the season Arsenal will finally make a more concrete move – or if they even want to.

The fee Sporting are looking for William Carvalho is reportedly around £30million. With his contract running until 2020 Sporting don’t necessarily need to cash in on him just yet and it gives them ability to reject any offers, as they have done in the past.

Carvalho has played 41 games for Sporting this season, scoring two goals and making four assists in the process.

With 88.1% of passes successful, he’s very good at keeping possession for his team and makes average of 71 passes per game.

His defensive work is admirable as he provides cover for more offensive teammates and the defensive line.

Due to his specific role of breaking opposition attacks, he often gets in trouble with officials. This season he’s collected nine yellow cards and one red, and that is the main part of his game that needs improving.

With Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin already in the squad, it’s doubtful if the Gunners will actually go for the player in the same position unless they decide to offload some of them first.

Coquelin, please…
