German newspaper BILD believe that Arsenal have a genuine chance of signing Naby Keïta from RB Leipzig this summer.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation in midfield since joining from sister club Red Bull Salzburg for a reported fee of £10m.

With eight goals and eight more assists in the Bundesliga this term, he has excelled under Ralph Hasenhüttl with the newly-promoted side and earned a UEFA Champions League place in the process.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea are just three of the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation but Arsenal’s level of interest is believed to be currently higher with Arsene Wenger phoning the player last summer and maintaining an interest ever since.

Keita said recently, “I am here now and feel very comfortable. There are still three games, that’s what I concentrate on. My consultant takes care of everything else. When it’s time, I’ll discuss it with him and my family.”

Would he join though?

His release clause does not come into play until next summer and Arsène Wenger’s summer transfer warchest could involve making a formal approach for the Guinea international.

However, Leipzig will be eager to keep hold of their key player and a stumbling block in negotiations could be the fact that Arsenal may not even qualify for Champions League football themselves this season.

If that’s the case, why would he leave?

Having only been in Germany for only one campaign, he may be eager to prove himself further amongst Europe’s elite before challenging himself in England or another league. A move seems inevitable but the timing is doubtful, unless Leipzig receive an offer they cannot refuse.

Arsenal are unlikely to make an inflated bid for the versatile midfielder, despite his undoubted quality and potential to improve further in future.

Leipzig are keen to extend Keita’s contract, which currently runs until 2020. To do so, they are prepared to make him a top earner at the club on around €4.5m per year (approx €86k per (£72kpw)) including bonuses.
