Former Gunner, Charlie Nicholas, reckons that Aaron Ramsey won’t have a place at Arsenal if Mesut Ozil stays.

  • Ramsey and Ozil’s deals both run out in June 2018
  • Ramsey has made just 14 Premier League appearances this season
  • Nicholas says ‘he’ll go’ if Ozil stays

Nicholas, who played for Arsenal from 1983 – 1988, believes that if Ozil extends his Arsenal deal, Ramsey will have no choice but to leave.

“If Ozil signs, he’ll [Ramsey] go,” Nicholas said to Sky Sports News HQ.

“Because he plays that role, Cazorla is coming back next season [even though] he’s getting on in years.

“Where’s he going to fit in?”

Ozil has until June 2018 on his current deal with negotiations over an extension set to continue in the summer. Ramsey’s runs out at the same time but considering how inconsistent his form has been over recent seasons, I’m not sure keeping the Wales international in north London will be a priority.

What’s more is that time has done nothing to shake off the 26-year-old’s injury woes and it now feels as if he’s spending more time on the sidelines than the pitch. Just this season, Ramsey’s missed 22 matches due to various hamstring and calf injuries, with the first injury he suffered against Liverpool back in August keeping him out for 70 days.

Arsenal look likely to overhaul their entire squad this summer if Arsene Wenger stays and I wouldn’t rule out Ramsey being just one of several players the club gets rid of.
