Carl Jenkinson has tweeted ahead of his first appearance for Arsenal since January.

The right-back should be getting some time on the pitch for Arsenal’s u23s against Southampton tonight (Friday) after gradually returning to training with the squad.

Jenkinson injured his crucial ligament against Manchester City while on loan at West Ham last season, which resulted in his knee having to get operated on. Since then, it’s been a slow but steady recover process.

The 24-year-old revealed to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently that he’s eyeing up a first team return in a later round of the EFL Cup but it’d be good to see him get to a point where he can hover around the fringes of the Premier League starting XI by the end of the season. He may never overtake Hector Bellerin in the pecking order but having a decent back-up won’t do the squad any harm at all.

Good luck tonight, Jenko.
