Joachim Löw has admitted that he’s glad that Serge Gnabry has returned to Germany and he hopes the winger gets more chances to play.

Following Germany’s 2-0 win in their friendly against Finland, Löw took a brief second away from scratching himself to praise Gnabry’s move to Werder Bremen.

The deal was finally announced on transfer deadline day after 24 hours of uncertainty. Well, when I say uncertainty, I mean, we were pretty convinced he was leaving, we just didn’t know where exactly, for how much or whether it was permanent. At one stage Bayern Munich appeared to be in the mix, although this was confirmed not to be true by Frank Baumann.

Löw is happy that Gnabry is back in his home country playing for a Bundesliga team and hopes that this is a chance for him to get regular football.

“[Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and I] have from time to time talked about [Gnabry],” he revealed.

“We have also asked about him. Both have raved about him.”

He added, “I am happy that he now plays in Germany – hopefully regularly.”

To be fair, the winger will probably get plenty of first team football if he can keep the injuries at bay, which gives him more of a chance of developing and representing his country at a senior level in the future. Löw has every reason to be excited.
