Freddie Ljungberg believes that other clubs raise a player’s transfer price if they know you’re an English club because they’re aware of how much money we have.

The former Gunner recently spoke about Arsene Wenger, who’s just hit his 20-year milestone in north London, our title hopes and new signings. However, something he mentioned in relation to the latter is that the reason English clubs have to pay so much is because everyone knows how much money we have so raise their prices.

“Xhaka, I’ve seen him quite a lot and he’s very good,” Ljungberg said.

“He’s a hard-working midfielder with a great left foot, like we had with (Emmanuel) Petit.

“I’ve heard on Lucas that he’s impressed a lot of people on the training ground.

“I think some people wanted some signings in the summer but everyone knows English clubs have a lot of money at the moment and if you ask for a player they raise the prices.

“He managed to get the players in the end.”

He continued, “He’s shown he’s a great manager and I think he’s been restricted a bit on the financial side in the past.

“They were second last year and this year hopefully we can win it.

“For Arsene to have been there for that long is a great achievement.

“And he’s been through lots of different parts of the club’s development too.

“He took them from Highbury, built a great side, then took them to the new stadium. Went into debt and maybe couldn’t but the players he wanted but still kept them in the Champions League, got them out of debt.

“Now maybe they’re maybe getting the players he wants and can afford to compete again.

“He never went to the media to moan about the budget and I think that take a great man.

“He’s showed he’s a great manager and been restricted a bit on the financial side in the past.

“He’s started to build the team and got second last year and now they can go and win it.

“I think everyone needs to get behind it.”

Shkodran Mustafi could be used as an example of a player many thought Wenger was crazy for spending £35m on. However, we needed a centre-back and Valencia knew this all too well. Therefore, they could afford to hold out until the penultimate day of the transfer window.

TV money, sponsorship deals etc all make us appear loaded compared to other clubs.

It’s probably also why Paul Pogba cost £89m. Juventus knew they could squeeze every last million out of Manchester United because they have the money sitting there. Oh, and Jose Mourinho is a fool.
