Spanish news outlet, Superdeporte, is claiming that Valencia are looking for new defenders in light of the recent speculation regarding Shkodran Mustafi’s future at the club.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with the German centre-back for a while now and with negotiations reportedly hotting up last week, it’s plausible that the La Liga club would be on the look-out for a new man.

What’s more, is that Everton are also been linked to another Valencia defender, Aymen Abdennour so, in theory, if both go, they need to get two in or they’re in trouble. It puts Arsenal under a bit more pressure, since they’re probably more likely to let one go than both so whoever gets in there first could be more successful.

Apparently, Valencia are after Sidnei Rechel, who’s been out on loan at Deportivo La Coruña from Benfica since 2014, to replace Abdennour. The 27-year-old is said to be setting the Toffies back £15m+, if they can nab him.

Meanwhile, Valencia are being reported to gain €30m (or £26m) should Mustafi’s transfer go through.

Earlier in August, it was rumoured that the reason the Mustafi deal is taking so long is because Arsenal and Valencia are waiting for the Spanish club to find the defender’s replacement before either side makes any moves. While this is sensible from Valencia’s point of view, the longer they take, the more nervous Arsenal grow. The clock’s ticking.
