Thierry Henry has spoken about Arsenal’s new signing, Mohamed Elneny, and what his role should be within his new team.

The ex-Basel midfielder has been signed to cover Francis Coquelin and potentially give him competition.

Coq has been sidelined with a knee injury for a couple of months and with only Mathieu ‘Money-Bags’ Flamini, who could leave any second, and the ageing Mikel Arteta as his only back-up, it was crucial we got another body in.

Arsenal legend, Henry, has spoken ahead of our impending clash against Chelsea at the Emirates about our current injury situation and what Elneny should bring to the team.

“We always talk about whether it is the right time to buy? Are the right players available?

“Mohamed Elneny has just arrived, we all know the role he plays in midfield which is a ‘destroyer’,” Henry said.

“Danny Welbeck will be coming back and hopefully Jack Wilshere too. There are a lot of players who are yet to return from injury.

“Those players will be like new signings. Right now the team is showing they are good enough to perform.

“I said a couple of weeks ago that they should go and buy a holding midfielder, and they did. Hopefully the injured players can come back and help the team win the title.”

I’m sure Elneny knows exactly what he needs to do when he sets foot on the pitch for Arsenal.

As much as we love to play pretty football, having a strong, no-nonsense holding midfielder is something we’ve often lacked. Coquelin has shown glimmers of this since being called back off loan from Charlton and I’m sure our new boy is being briefed on what’s expected of him in this position.

Let’s hope he steps up.
