Arsène Wenger had some good news for Arsenal fans on Thursday morning as he faced the media and looked ahead to Sunday’s game against Chelsea.

The boss revealed that Mesut Özil and Alexis Sánchez could both be available for the London derby at the Emirates Stadium, and there was more good news about players who have been out of action.

Midfielder Francis Coquelin has been out since November’s loss to West Bromwich Albion, meaning Mathieu Flamini has had to play regularly in the middle of the park. the squad has looked a little thin, but Coquelin could be set for an early return.

“Coquelin is back in full training today,” Wenger said. “He’s ahead of schedule.”

The Gunners have signed Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Basel, but he is yet to make his debut and it’s clear the team could do with more players returning.

Lucky, then, that forward Danny Welbeck is also nearing his comeback. He is yet to play this season but, just behind Tomas Rosicky and Coquelin, could be the next player in action.

“Welbeck will be in full training next week. Rosicky will play tomoorrow night with the u21s.”

We’re at a crucial stage of the season, and having these players back now could be the difference between winning the title and finishing second or third.
