Arsene Wenger claims there are ‘realistically’ six title contenders but is this really true?

I’m not so sure.

Speaking ahead of our match against Sunderland at the weekend, Wenger said that there are potentially six teams who could win the Premier League this season. However, as tight as it is, is six actually realistic?

“You look across the league and every game is difficult for everybody,” Wenger said.

“It is down to consistency. We have gone through a spell that has been a bit difficult for us but I believe we are in there and it’s down to how well we respond.”

The manager continued, “I’m convinced that we will respond very well. Mathematically, maybe 10 to 12 [can win the title]. Realistically, about six.”

Let’s look at the teams the boss is (probably) referring to.

Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Spurs (PAH), and… Chelsea? Unless he’s speaking about Leicester, of course.

In my opinion, it’s between Arsenal and the two Manchester teams, realistically. The rest are either too far behind or don’t have the quality to push themselves to the top. Of course, the boss probably knows this because I can’t imagine he was thinking of Spurs winning the title without suppressing a giggle.

However, I guess with only nine points between 10th position and 1st, anything is possible. Except for Spurs winning the title. That isn’t.
